50 years of Chew Valley Choral Society
Join us to Sing Handel's Messiah
In 1976 a group of singers assembled to rehearse and sing Handel's Messiah and the Chew Valley Choral Society was born. To celebrate our 50th anniversary we shall be singing Messiah again with some help from friends old and new.
Messiah Workshop, Saturday 13 June 2026, 2-5pm - Booking Open!
Our preparations start with a workshop led by our Musical Director, David Bednall. The workshop will take place at Bishop Sutton Village Hall (Wick Road, Bishop Sutton, BS39 5XQ). Tickets cost £20, which includes score hire, and tea and cakes.
So that we can ensure we have enough scores (and cakes!) please pre-book using one of the following methods:

Saturday 28th November 2026 - St John's Church Keynsham
We are delighted that we will now be joined for this concert by Henleaze Choral Society and members of Nailsea Choral Society for a truly collaborative event
However, this does not mean that additional singers will not be welcome. You can take part in one of the following ways:
Join us for the autumn term's rehearsals and concert
We invite individual singers of any voice to join Chew Valley Choral Society as we learn the piece together during the autumn term. We will start rehearsals on 8 September. Singers joining us for the term will pay the same termly fee as existing members. For this term the subscription will be £100 which includes taking part in the concert.
Experienced singers
Experienced singers who know the piece well are welcome to join us for the final rehearsal and concert. Singers joining us for the rehearsal and concert only will be asked to contribute £20 towards the cost of organising the event. These places may be limited and, depending on numbers, we may need to prioritise certain voices.
Rehearsal and concert, Saturday 28 November
There will be a full rehearsal with the orchestra during the day, and the concert will be held at 7.30pm in St John’s Church, Keynsham.
